Beechwood’s Mausoleum is widely recognized as one of the most magnificent mausoleums in Canada. Built in 1931 by architect William Ralston, the mausoleum is an example of 14th century Neo Gothic architecture. Upon entering the mausoleum a set of stately and seemingly impervious bronze chapel doors majestically open to reveal towering vaulted ceilings, exquisite glass and marble niches and glorious stained glass windows by the hand of renowned artist James Bloomfield. Once inside the mausoleum there are 546 crypts where some of the Nation’s Capital’s prominent citizens of the past are entombed. In recent years, bronze, glass and marble Columbarium niches were added to meet the requirement of above ground interment of cremated remains.
Beechwood offers a broad spectrum of memorialization options; and a significant portion of the proceeds from the sale of memorialization are used exclusively for the preservation, maintenance and ongoing beautification of Beechwood. Some memorialization options include: upright monuments, individual bronze or granite flat markers, tree dedications, bench dedications, Book of Remembrance, Tree of Life and individual family mausolea.
