BNMC Capital Campaign

The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation, a not-for-profit registered Canadian charity, initiated a fundraising campaign for $1.1 million dollars for enhancements for the Centre. With generous contributions and pledges from Canadians, the Foundation has purchased original Canadian artwork, outdoor lighting, parking and landscaping enhancements, audio and video equipment, a baby grand piano, fitments for the Hall of Colours and an Ablution Room for the Muslim community.

A Legacy for All Canadians

In the summer of 2007, The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation launched its inaugural fundraising campaign to raise $1.1 million for enhancements for the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, including:

  • Original Canadian artwork
  • An Ablution Room for the Muslim community
  • A Canadian Military Chaplains’ Memorial Window
  • A state-of-the-art audio-visual system
  • A Baby Grand piano
  • Parking and landscaping enhancements
  • Outdoor lighting
  • Donor recognition artwork to be located in the Centre’s main foyer
  • A plinth and fitments for the Hall of Colours
  • Improvements to Beechwood's St. Laurent Blvd entrance

From Glowing Hearts

The BNMC Fundraising Campaign has given Canadians from across the nation the opportunity to contribute to our country’s national place of tribute, and by which we may educate Canadians about our nation’s rich history and heritage. Donations ranged from $25.00 to $125,000.

The Donor's Forest

The Donors' Forest was unveiled at the Donor Appreciation Reception on September 16, 2010. The Donors' Forest features the names of donors who gave over $5,000 to the Beechwood National Memorial Centre Inaugural Fundraising Campaign, and can be found in the main foyer of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre.

The Donors' Forest was created by Grace Nickel, an award-winning artist and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. She has been successful in several international competitions, and has been nominated for the Saidye Bronfman Award and the International Academy of Ceramics. Grace's work has appeared in several solo exhibitions across Canada, and can also be found in many important collections including in the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, Japan, the National Museum of History in Taipei, Taiwan, the Yingge Ceramic Museum, Taiwan, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
