Fundraising

Here are some of our fundraising successes.

The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation, a not-for-profit registered Canadian charity, initiated a fundraising campaign for $1.1 million dollars for enhancements for the Centre. With generous contributions and pledges from Canadians, the Foundation has purchased original Canadian artwork, outdoor lighting, parking and landscaping enhancements, audio and video equipment, a baby grand piano, fitments for the Hall of Colours and an Ablution Room for the Muslim community.

Macoun Marsh, located in the southeast section of Beechwood Cemetery, is recognized as a unique urban wetland. It is named in honour of John Macoun, a Canadian naturalist interred at Beechwood.

Fundraising efforts were responsible yet again for another world-class development at Beechwood. This time it was through the dedicated and earnest fundraising efforts of the Bruyère Project Steering Committee that a monument was unveiled May 30, 2007 as part of the City of Ottawa’s 150th anniversary celebrations and the 160th anniversary of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa.

As a result of the cooperative efforts of the The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation, the Poet’s Hill Committee and the valued contributions of its donors, September 13, 2006 marked the official grand opening of an outdoor stage for our nation’s literary appreciation, commemoration and reflection – Poet’s Hill in Beechwood Cemetery.
