Beechwood has played a major role in ensuring that the sacrifices of our Canadian veterans are not forgotten, for Beechwood's Veterans Sections are the time-honoured final home of over 3,000 of our Canadian veterans.
At Beechwood, veterans from the Northwest Rebellion, the World Wars, recent United Nations campaigns as well as other conflicts and humanitarian missions rest shoulder to shoulder beside the leaders they served, including generals Henry Crerar, Andrew McNaughton, and Charles Foulkes. In 1944 the Crown purchased Section 27 where 2,400 hallowed graves fan out from The Cross of Sacrifice, a central feature of this Veterans Section, now administered by the Last Post Fund. A prominent corner of Section 19 contains the remains of 168 veterans also administered by the Last Post Fund; in Section 29, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission administers to the majority of the final resting place of 235 veterans.
